Well hey there! I know it's been a while since I've posted any new blogs but I'm back! Last quarter I read
What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen. I love her books and so being able to read one and being able to share my opinions on it and get a grade made it even better. This quarter I read
Because I am Furniture.
When I first chose this book, I was not sure if I would like it or not. I asked some of my friends who had read the book about their opinion on it. My feedback was about 50/50. Some said they loved it while others said it was boring and that I should choose a different book. I listened to the few that said they loved and my third quarter book was chosen. After reading it, I'm glad that I listened to them. I loved the book. I do have to admit that at the beginning, it was weird. The format was weird and it was hard to picture the setting. But after the first few pages, it was get getting to be pretty interesting.
Because I am Furniture is about a girl named Anke. She has grown up her entire life, watching her father beat her older brother and sister. She knows her mom sees what he is doing but she just sits and watches, never telling her families secret. Because Anke sees her dad abuse her siblings, she feels unloved because he has never hurt her. She describes her dad as very handsome, charming man. Her friend Angeline thinks that Anke's dad is a marvolous person since she doesn't know who he really is. At one point in the book, Anke catches her father and Angeline in his office, getting it on. After seeing that, Anke can't take holding in her families secret any longer. She runs home and shares what she just saw with her family. Her dad comes home and hears her story, then beating her with a chair.
By the end of the book, her father is in jail and Anke's family is living a better, happier life. There is a lot of other, little things that happen but those are the main events.
If you haven't read the book, I highly suggest reading it. It may take some time to like it, but it is really a good book! If you have read it, what are your thoughts on it?
